Gantri
A lighting collection designed to shift from task to ambient.
Overview:
During the pandemic a co-worker and I noticed a trend that had been happening for a while: every space in the home is at times, a work space, and a relaxation space.
With this in mind, we set out to design a collection of lights that had an “active mode” that provides direct light when working, and a passive mode, that provides ambient light when it’s time to wind down.
The whole collection shape shifts between these two modes, assuming a new form when the mode shifts.

The Spark
The transition to WFH made us realize the need for positive reinforcers in our environment that signal “time to work” and “time for a break”.

Launch Event
This project started during Covid, and was quite a journey to learn how to work remotely as a team. To celebrate the collection and collectively overcoming obstacles, the team hosted a launch event at Smart Design’s temporary office space in Brooklyn Navy Yard.
